Travelling Wilbury

Going to The End of the Line... Festival that is!

My brother & I spent Saturday morning trawling through the Wolloongabba Antiques Centre before heading up the road (a-ways... he he) to the site of the old Moreton Rubber Works for The End of the Line Festival, a free G20 street party celebrating all things food, music, vintage & eclectic.

Dress: Martini silk
Sandals: Betts patent
Bag: Novo patent
Cuffs: Lovisa rose gold
Ring: Vintage, Cameo (belonged to my Aunty Emily)

This horizontal striped silk maxi dress from Martini was the ideal choice for such an occasion, mixing comfort & style with the relaxed shape & floaty material - although next time I will be bringing a broad-brimmed hat with me as despite the cool breeze blowing & pockets of shade, the sun was biting by 10 o'clock. I also wore a snood fashioned from the material left over when the dress was taken up. I see no reason to waste a reasonably wide piece of perfectly good fabric when merely over-locking one side creates a stylish accessory to add flair to an otherwise basic neckline.

Comfortable shoes were the only way to go, so I wore a pair of gladiator-style sandals from Betts - the black patent leather & slight wedge heel giving them a dressy appearance despite their casual nature - & carried my trusty patent handbag. Jewellery was kept to a minimum with a pair of matching rose gold cuffs on each forearm & a vintage rose gold cameo ring that once belonged to my Aunty Emily as a nod to the day ahead.

Of course, the name of the festival immediately had us conjuring up images of 1980s "super group" The Travelling Wilburys - featuring the talents of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynn, Roy Orbison & Tom Petty - & humming their insanely catchy hit single, some of the lyrics of which are available below:

Well, it's alright, riding around in the breeze
Well, it's alright, if you live the life you please
Well, it's alright, doing the best you can
Well, it's alright, as long as you lend a hand

You can sit around & wait for the phone to ring
(At the end of the line)
Waiting for someone to tell you everything
(At the end of the line)
Sit around & wonder what tomorrow will bring
(At the end of the line)
Maybe a diamond ring

Well, it's alright, even when push comes to shove
Well, it's alright, if you've got someone to love
Well, it's alright, everything will work out fine
Well, it's alright, we're going to the end of the line

Don't have to be ashamed of the car I drive
(At the end of the line)
Just glad to be here, happy to be alive
(At the end of the line)
It don't matter if you're by my side
(At the end of the line)
I'm satisfied

Scroll down for pictures from the festival. Entertainment included choirs from a myriad of schools & ethnic groups, penny-farthing bicycle races in period costume, old trams & taxis on display, mouth-watering food & drink from a variety of vendors including the hilariously titled ChipTease & vintage markets selling clothing, records, bric-a-brac & beyond...

Following our morning at the festival, we decided to retire to the air-conditioned comfort of the Brisbane Antique Centre for some further fossicking & a delicious plate of seasoned wedges with sweet chili & sour cream. Pictures below:
